My brother is back!

He is back! Our car rides with social distancing have started. My brother Leon is here & the conversation has not stopped. From here he will be directing a new episode of Queen of the South in New Orleans -but we will have him here for a couple of months!

Today (MC joined us since she loves to hear our stories!) we were reminiscing about our really penniless days in Miami as brand new Cuban Refugees-when eating in delicious Royal Castle was like going to Maxim’s in Paris. And relishing the memory of super divine, all-American, Toby’s Cafeteria on SW 27 Ave which -as a huge treat- my mother, Leon & I enjoyed every once in a while! And always invited by my uncle Gustavo Alfonso & my aunt Fela Ichaso - since we could not afford it.

There I learned to love American comfort food which to this day I adore.    Especially Meat Loaf, Chicken Pot Pie, Boston Cream Pie & Banana Cream Pie!  -We all moved to NYC when my father arrived from Cuba in 1969 and our super difficult & very poor days in Miami were over!  In New York our life (and our finances) changed 180 degrees...Ah, the memories!!!
