2019 starts....Why have I abandoned this blog for so long?

The years seem to run ahead.  Run, run, run at crazy speeds...Don't you think?

And the last 2 years -having a crazy, terribly dictatorial and very mean President in power -have thrown me back to those terrible years of my early youth, when the Cuban Revolution began --and our lives were shaken and disrupted forever.

Maybe that is the reason I have not written in this blog.  Trends and style have been derailed in my mind....And a huge worry for the future of the United States and its core values arrived in force.

But today I would like to write about the many lovely things happening in my world,,,

Of course, Miren Antonia, my 7 year old granddaughter is the loveliest of them all. She brings me back to childhood, exactly like I experienced through Mari-Claudia from the moment she was born. It is a divine experience...Children and grandchildren. .A wonderful way to relive our own innocence! And enjoy life 500%

Maybe that is the main reason to have children and procreate?  To confront us adults -and inspire us-  with the innocence and harmony of childhood all over again?  God -the higher power- likes to teach us lessons to open our eyes -and this might be one.

Think about it!

Regarding trends and style events....Oscar de la Renta's death years ago and the sort/of/retirement of Carolina Herrera from the world of design in early 2018 have impacted me deeply. Like when YSL died --and Valentino stopped creating his line anymore...Too many changes, too many talented creators gone -- and not necessarily for the better.

So Fashion does nor interest me as much as it once did.  I am missing great talents and even greater trends!  But I still follow it -of course- and many things DO continue to tremendously please my sense of fashion.  And it amuses me to no end to see that by beloved animal prints -which I wore from day one decades ago, and of which I was such a pioneer-- STILL continue!

Art and TV series have been so important to me lately!

I love to see pieces of art that I love, over and over again-  so visits and re/visits to museums and galleries are such a delight.  Looking at Brancusi's sculptures and Picasso's several periods never gets old. The same with Velazquez's Rockeby Venus at London's National Gallery!   I always go back to see her and take hidden & prohibited pictures, one more time. Next February I will do it again, while I take my much beloved London walks!

Of course, I love Travel and continue to do so, It endlessly feeds my soul!

TV series are of utmost pleasure to me and many of my friends!...So many wonderful ones -especially from Scandinavia and Great Britain. And since many are historical I just adore them!   Versailles has stirred a great curiosity and I have returned several times to the Palace of Versailles to look for new places ---and walk over and over the steps of Queens and Kings in the gorgeous Gallery of Mirrors....I first did this in 1969 but now it has a bigger and super thrilling meaning! Just love it!

As you can see my blog entry today is more serene than usual. Maybe because I feel that my life has been -is and I hope continues to be - healthy, well lived and well enjoyed. The secret? Take longer time looking at things and enjoying your pleasures. Slow and beautiful is the code for a better life.

I wish you all a great 2019!

Mari
